Ashdon Primary School will be holding its first family arts festival on 10th June between 11 & 4 pm.
The event, sponsored by the Stradivari Trust, will be headlined by the internationally renowned Doric String Quartet, who will be performing Mendelssohn’s String Quartet Number 1 and the Tale of Bremen Town Musicians by the Brothers Grimm, with live narration and illustration by artist James Mayhew.
The Doric String Quartet have been formed for 20 years and in that time, have won prizes at musical events across the world. They regularly play to audiences across Europe, Asia and North America, and are taking time out of their busy summer schedule to support the event.
Chair of the School PTA Sarah Clark is thrilled that the quartet are able perform at the festival which is to be held in the school and its grounds.
“We are very fortunate in a school of only 90 children to have a number of parents with a professional musical background. This combined with a hardworking and committed PTA will mean we will be offering the opportunity for whole families to enjoy a unique experience where they can hear live music and participate in a range of different arts based activities.”
The event will also feature a dance workshop delivered by Sue Raven and her Pure Rhythm Dance company, face painting, additional live music, and the opportunity for children to make junk model instruments and then perform in a junk orchestra.
