We were very pleased to welcome members of the Britsh Legion to Sharing Assembly on Friday where we presented them with a cheque for £230 which was raised when we sold our ceramic poppies.
Parish Clerk David Green takes up the story….
The poppies were previously placed on Ashdon War Memorial to mark the centenary of the Armistice and then in Ashdon Village Hall for the village commemoration event. The cheque was received by Bob Curran, Chairman of the SWRBL and Andrew Pain, Vice Chairman. The cheque takes the total amount raised for the Saffron Walden Poppy Appeal to over £32,000. Both Mr. Curran and Mr. Pain thanked the school for their generous gift and thanked and congratulated both the children and the school for their outstanding achievement. A spokes person for the school said that the project had really focused the childrens’ minds on the reason for making the poppies. It was particularly relevant as all men whose names are on the war memorial would have attended the school.
Thanks to David for organising a lovely addition to Sharing Assembly.
